Figures as of 30 August 2026 · sources at the foot of the page
Owning a whole coin has a name - wholecoiner - and a club size most people wildly overestimate.
| Measure | Number |
|---|---|
| Addresses holding 1+ BTC | 971,299 (top 1.64% of funded addresses) |
| Estimated individual wholecoiners | ~825,000 people (River research) |
| Dollar millionaires worldwide | 57.5 million (UBS, 2026) |
| Rarity vs millionaires | ~70x rarer, by person |
| Maximum possible wholecoiners, ever | 21 million people - 0.26% of the world |
Fewer than a million of the 59.26 million funded addresses hold a full coin, and once you account for people with multiple addresses, researchers put the human wholecoiner count near 825,000 - on a planet of 8.2 billion. Framed against traditional wealth: for every wholecoiner there are about seventy dollar millionaires. And the ceiling is hard: even if every coin ever mined were distributed one per person, 99.74% of humanity would be left out - before subtracting the millions of coins already lost.
Enough for what is a question only you can answer, and this site does not do price predictions. What the arithmetic supports saying: a whole bitcoin is a permanently scarce position that most people on earth can never occupy, and it currently ranks its holder ahead of more than 98% of every funded address on the network. Whether that scarcity translates into wealth depends entirely on what the world decides bitcoin is worth - which is precisely the bet a wholecoiner is making.
